Let’s Cut to the Chase…Follow-Up is Everything 

If you are a school owner and are having trouble following up with leads, you aren’t alone.

School owners can get the leads but they are falling through the cracks.

Most school owners don’t know where to even begin when it comes to following up with their leads.

And the worst part is that the solution is painfully “easy”.

Call them.

It is as simple as that.

The most important step is first getting leads, but with a good marketing agency (we might know someone haha) that can be easy and hands-free.

So, really the most important step is following up with that lead. If a lead just sits there, that will not help you grow your active count of students.

As a Martial Arts School Owner, we know how many hats you have to wear sometimes– Head Instructor, Partner in Education, Operations Manager, Staff trainer, Janitor, and— well, you get it. And on top of that, you have to ensure lead follow-up is happening. It’s exhausting.

And even more so when you learn that according to the Harvard Business Review you should be following up within the first 5 minutes of getting a lead or see a 10x diminish to close the sale. On top of all that don’t even get us started on the fact that in that same study it took at least 6 call attempts on average to reach and close on the lead. 

And you thought it was hard to follow up with these leads before hearing those stats...

These are often the reasons school owners believe their leads never stick:

1. You don’t have time to follow up with leads the moment they come in.

2. You don’t have the bandwidth to follow up with a lead multiple times.

3. You’ve got too much on your plate to organize and implement a lead follow-up

strategy.

Now for the real reason you are here… how do you follow up with these leads?

Calling is the number one way to follow up with your leads.

We know not the answer you wanted to hear.

However, it is proven that calling is more effective because you can get the information you need in one call rather than messaging or emailing back and forth.

You also need to remember that if you do not follow up on a lead in five minutes or less it will go cold and be lost forever.

But you don’t always (or ever) have the time or bandwidth to follow up immediately or repeatedly.

So, you may be thinking what are my choices?

1. Put an automated system in place to buy yourself some time until you can put a slot on your calendar to follow up.

Spoiler alert: by the time you find this magical slot in your schedule, the lead will have grown cold.

2. Hire someone (or a team) to do the follow-up for you.

Now, all you have to do is hire them, train them, monitor them, develop them, give them benefits, sick days, vacation days, a 401k, coaching, yada, yada, yada.

AND STILL – there’s no guarantee that this person will actually deliver.

I’m not even going to talk about outsourcing this service overseas to a call center. You’re better than that.

If you are not following up with your lead then how do you expect that lead to taking another step towards becoming a student at your school?

When it comes to leads it is not only about gaining more money, it is about helping that lead with improving their life by joining your martial arts school.

Following up with leads will allow your active student count to increase just by following up with a lead that was interested in one class.

Yes, not every lead is wanting to actually schedule a time to your try out one of your classes, but following up with that lead will give them the information they wanted and can potentially persuade them to join at a later date.

If you follow up with a lead and they do not answer, make sure to call that lead back.

Make at least 6 call attempts before giving up on that specific lead. This will give your school 70% more contacts just by calling that lead more than once. 

Obviously do not call the lead every day for six days in a row, but do these six calls over some time. For example, if you find that doing these calls over a six-week period is the easiest way for you then do that. This system is to insure that you convert qualified leads.

Build Relationships:

Building a relationship is important because it can be the reason your school becomes successful.

You want to Build relationships with prospects and ensure they know what your school is all about.

For that reason, as soon as you’ve established a good relationship with a potential lead, it’s an obligation that you contact them on a standard basis. If you fail to do so, your prospect will forget about your school and move on to another school.
