Ever wonder what certain phrases or words mean when you’re talking about marketing? We’re here to help!
We are breaking down 20 of the most common and essential digital marketing terms for you to know
A
- A/B Testing (or Split Testing)– One of many digital marketing terms for when a marketer tests two different, but similar, versions of an ad to determine which one performs better. Some common things that are changed to test are visuals, ad copy and type of media (e.g., video or images).
- Automation– In marketing terms, an advertiser can set up automations to simulate communication between themselves and the prospective customer. An essential part of lead nurturing, it often includes setting up email or text campaigns to follow up with potential or current customers.
C
- Click-Through Rate (CTR)– The percentage of users who click on a specific link or view a page, email, or ad. You can analyze the CTR for every step of the customer journey to see how many users move from step to step and how many drop off.
- CPA (Cost Per Acquisition)– The cost to acquire one paying customer. When an advertiser uses this pricing model, they pay for every acquisition (sale, form submission, etc.) the campaign generates.
- CPC (Cost Per Click)– The cost of every click on an ad (also called pay per click). When an advertiser uses this pricing model, they pay every time someone clicks on the ad, regardless of any action taken beyond that.

- CTA (Call to Action)– A statement where you tell your audience what they should do after viewing your ad (e.g., Buy now! Click the button to sign up for x, etc.).
