It is no secret that people spend more and more time on the Internet than ever before, particularly on mobile. According to a Statista study, there was a 384% increase in the daily time spent online on phones worldwide during the past ten years, skyrocketing from 32 minutes in 2011 to a projected 155 minutes in 2021.
So how do you reach all of these people spending almost 3 hours online per day? With Digital Marketing, of course!
If the pandemic has shown us anything, it is the importance of digital marketing. Now more than ever, businesses need to perfect their online footprint to stand out from competitors. A company with no digital presence likely will not survive during the pandemic, and almost certainly won’t survive after.
But digital marketing can be exceptionally tricky, especially if you do not have a background in it. However, I’ve gathered 6 essential marketing skills any business owner should have- and resources to learn them!
In no time, you will be a professional marketer if you learn these skills.
1. Facebook Ads
An absolute essential for any digital marketer, Facebook ads can be lead generating machines if you know how to run them. As one of the more technical skills on this list, Facebook ads require setting up audiences, writing ad copy and setting up the customer journey funnel.
Facebook offers a certification program for Facebook ads called Facebook Blueprint, but this is geared more toward professional marketers and less toward business owners, especially martial arts school owners.
At Grow Pro, we offer an 8 Week Marketing Mastermind course explicitly geared toward martial arts school owners. Tailored for the martial arts industry, it is the best way to learn about Facebook ads in less time with a more specific focus and industry recommendations.

2. Social Media
Leveraging social media is a must-have for any business in 2020. Without it, you have no means of connecting with your audience where they spend much of their time. Certain platforms are better for specific demographics, but social media is a constant in almost every group.
There are several methods we suggest to learn it.
In the previously mentioned Marketing Mastermind course, we provide some useful tips about social media, particularly with Instagram.
However, Hubspot and Hootsuite both offer online courses and certifications about social media marketing. These range from free to $199.
If you aren’t interested in social media being one of your marketing skills, you can also outsource this.
At Grow Pro agency we can handle it for you!
3. Google Ads
With organic results showing up lower and lower on the search engine results page (SERP), Google Ads are the only way to ensure your business shows up at the top of the page. If you have ever used a search engine, you know how important it is for your business to show up as one of the first listings- most people will choose the first viable option related to their search.
Google itself offers free training courses for their Google Ads platform, which is an excellent resource directly from the source. However, if you want to learn about Google ads in a shorter amount of time with a martial arts industry expert, the 8-week mastermind course is the way to go.
4. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
One of the more broad and technical components of digital marketing, SEO is everything that you do to your content to make it appear at the top of the search results (after ads). While ads will always take the first few spots, there are many strategies you can implement to have your content rank even without paying.
A useful tool I found was this online course. While it does link to a lot of paid resources, it is a great free guide on the basics of SEO.
However, if you want SEO done for you, we offer services and content optimized for search engines at Grow Pro!
5. Copywriting
Writing is one of many essential marketing skills that are good in general for life. However, the way you write in a marketing setting is different from others.
In the industry, we call writing aimed at encouraging or persuading people to buy “copywriting.”
This blog post by Enchanted Marketing has a fantastic process for teaching yourself copywriting. There are many YouTube videos about the topic as well.
6. Graphic Design
No matter what content you produce- if it is not aesthetically pleasing, it will not generate the leads you want. People often underestimate the power of good design, but it truly makes all the difference.
Most people think that if they do not have an eye for design, they are doomed, but that is far from the truth. Canva is an incredibly easy tool to use that allows you to choose from pre-formatted designs.
They also offer several courses about graphic design, branding and other related topics.
